High-revving, naturally aspirated V12s will soon be retired but before that happens, a number of exciting new cars are hitting the market with some pretty remarkable engines. Joining the likes of the Aston Martin Valkyrie and Gordon Murray T.50, the Pagani Huayra R is equipped with a naturally aspirated V12. This engine took more than two years to design and develop and churns out 838 hp and 750 Nm of torque from its 6.0 liters. However, it’s not the impressive figures that make this engine remarkable but rather the glorious soundtrack it produces.
The Pagani Huayra R is a track-limited
beast and not only does its free-revving V12 sound unlike any other on the
market, but it is also reminiscent of a V12 or V10-powered Formula 1 car.
Pagani obviously spent a lot of time ensuring this engine would sound as good
as possible and, as we’re sure you will agree, they have done a fantastic job
with it.
This engine revs through to 9,000 rpm and
is coupled to a six-speed sequential transmission developed in partnership with
HWA AG that weighs 176 lbs (80 kg) and uses a triple-plate clutch. Contributing
to the car’s stunning soundtrack are the four equal-length exhaust pipes.
Pagani made a number of other upgrades to
the Huayra R over the road car. For example, a new monocoque and a
chrome-molybdenum alloy steel front frame contribute to a 16 per cent increase
in torsional rigidity and a 51 per cent increase in flexural rigidity.
