The second-generation Nissan Leaf is nearing the end of its lifecycle with a rumored crossover successor already on its way, but the popular EV received one last update in Europe focused on styling. Mind you, the current generation was introduced in 2017 and received technological updates in 2020.
The first thing you notice in the 2022
Nissan Leaf is the new 16-inch and 17-inch alloy wheel designs with black
accents which is the most noticeable update over the previous model year. If
you look closer, you will spot the updated Nissan emblem on the grille,
tailgate, and wheels, in line with the rest of the range. Finally, Nissan is
also offering two additional color options for the Leaf – the Universal Blue,
and the Magnetic Blue – that were already available in the Qashqai and the
Ariya.
While mild facelifts are usually combined
with new interior trim, the Leaf’s cabin remains unchanged. On the technology
front the EV retains the same 9-inch touchscreen for the NissanConnect
infotainment that supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and
remote control features, while safety equipment includes Nissan’s ProPILOT
suite of ADAS.
The 2022 Leaf range includes two
lithium-ion battery options. The standard Leaf gets a capacity of 40kWh, while
the Leaf e+ benefits from a larger 62 kWh battery offering up to 385 km of WLTP range. In terms of powertrain, the single electric motor
produces 148 hp in the Leaf, and up to 215 hp in the Leaf e+.
Nissan didn’t announce pricing for the
slightly updated Leaf in Europe, but we expect it to do so closer to the EV’s
market launch.
