Maserati published the most revealing photo of the upcoming GranTurismo Folgore while announcing its partnership with ROKiT Venturi Racing for the next season of FIA’s Formula E World Championship. The fully electric model set to debut this year is covered by a thin layer of blue wrap with Trident graphics on the profile, which does little to hide the design. We can clearly see the familiar proportions with a long bonnet, lots of curves, pronounced shoulders, three-spoke wheels, fender-mounted headlights inspired by the MC20 supercar, and a low-positioned grille. The only covered part is the lower bumper intakes which are expected to have a different design compared to the ICE-powered variants of the GranTurismo.
In terms of powertrain, the GranTurismo
Folgore is expected to be the most powerful Maserati ever, producing over 650
hp. This will make it faster than the regular GranTurismo which will be fitted
with the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6. By 2025, all members of the Maserati range
will be offered in Folgore variants, before the Trident brand becomes
electric-only by 2030.
The GranTurismo Folgore appeared in the
background of a handshake between Davide Grasso, Maserati’s CEO, and Scott
Swid, Chairman and Managing Partner of ROKiT Venturi Racing. The multi-year
partnership between the two brands in Formula E was solidified during the Rome
E-Prix and will start next year (Season 9 of the series) with the new Gen3
single-seaters. ROKiT Venturi Racing is the current leader in Team and Driver’s
championship standings, and it scored two victories and five podiums last
season.
