McLaren has been spied testing its new GT4 race car which will be based on the new Artura. The British car manufacturer has been running the 570S GT4 in various racing championships for six years and is obviously working on its replacement. These two camouflaged prototypes were spotted being pushed to the limits at the Monza circuit. A number of visual and aerodynamic modifications have been made to the Artura. For example, the hood has new aerodynamic intakes and there is also a larger front splitter, a tow strap, and aerodynamic canards. The car also has Perspex side windows, center-locking wheels, and a more prominent rear wing to stick the rear tires to the track.
We know that the road-going Artura
features a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that works alongside an electric
motor to pump out a combined 671 hp and 720 Nm of torque. This
engine is coupled to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the rear
wheels. However, the GT4 race car is expected to drop the electric motor and
rely solely on the V6 which is good for 577 hp and 646 Nm on its
own.
The Artura GT4 will likely use a different
transmission that the road car. After all, the street car doesn’t actually have
a reverse gear and uses its electric motor for reverse. The Artura has been
delayed on three occasions since it was first unveiled. In December last year,
it was revealed that deliveries of the plug-in hybrid had been delayed until
July 2022 as McLaren apparently decided to prioritize its limited supply of
semiconductors to higher-margin models such as the Elva and 765LT Spider.
U.S. pricing for the Artura will start at US$ 225,000. It will hit 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds and top out at an
electronically-limited top speed of 330 km/h.
