This is our first look at North America’s 2023 Honda CR-V, teased before its debut later this summer with production and sales to start in the fall. It is clear that the new CR-V has undergone a serious makeover from these cropped images shared by Honda. The first teaser previews the front end of the SUV, revealing overhauled headlights with LED daytime running lights. Honda has also equipped the 2023 CR-V with a more prominent and larger grille, which at least in this Hybrid trim, is finished in black while the lower air intakes have silver shrouds. The shape and curves of the front fascia are also quite different than the outgoing model.
There’s also no mistaking the rear of the
2023 CR-V for the current model. While the L-shaped taillights that stretch up
the D-pillars remain, they are now more refined and sport revised LED
signatures. Other parts of the new CR-V that catch the eye include the faux
silver tailpipes and different tailgate.
Earlier this month, images
surfaced out of China showing the local-spec model in detail. The Chinese
version of the 2023 CR-V looks virtually identical to the example featured in
these teasers and it seems apparent that only minor trim changes will
differentiate the Chinese model from the North American-spec car as well as
those sold in other markets, including Europe and Australia. American Honda
hasn’t confirmed all that many details about the 2023 CR-V, other than saying
in a press release that it offers “increased versatility” and “a more advanced
hybrid system for a sportier driving experience with more capability.” These
teasers are of the hybrid powertrain-equipped model.
It remains unclear what changes Honda has
made to the current CR-V hybrid system. In the U.S., the SUV’s current hybrid
system combines a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder with an electric
starter-generator and electric motor. It comes standard with AWD, a CVT, and
produces 212 hp. A conventional gasoline powertrain will surely be on offer as
well, while there have been rumors of an electric version joining the range too
after the introduction of the 2024 Prologue SUV.
