FB Mondial has taken the cover off its Piega 125 street naked motorcycle for the international markets. The Piega 125 derives its name from the company’s flagship superbike. FB Mondial’s flagship superbike used to use Honda’s SP1 V-Twin engine. The designer behind the Piega 125 is also the same as the one for Suzuki’s Katana, Rodolfo Frascoli.
The Italian brand FB Mondial came to India
through Kinetic-owned MotoRoyale showrooms. However, it didn’t stay for long.
Hence, there is no chance we’ll get to see the bike on Indian roads. The FB
Mondial Piega 125 gets a rather unconventional design. At the front, you have
vertically stacked LED headlights in a protruding headlight cowl and gold-coloured
forks. On the other hand, the rear has a very sharp and minimalistic design.
The tail of the bike looks clean as the number plate is mounted on the
swingarm. Another interesting bit is the gills and aero wings on the tank of
the motorcycle. FB Mondial says they are functional. However, we have our
doubts.
Powering the Piega 125 is a 124cc
liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. The motor produces 14.8 BHP and 10.5 Nm
of torque. In comparison, the Duke 125 produces 14.5 BHP and 12 Nm of torque.
Hence, the Piega has slightly more power but less torque than the Duke 125.
However, the Piega 125 has a clear advantage when it comes to weight. It tips
the scales at 135 kg against KTM’s 159 kg.
As for suspension, it uses 40mm
upside-down forks with 97mm of wheel travel. At the back, it gets a
non-adjustable monoshock. As for braking, it uses a 4-piston radially-mounted
calliper and a 280mm disc at the front. For the rear, the bike gets a
single-piston floating calliper and a 220mm disc brake. Additionally, it also
gets a single-channel ABS.
