Shenlan, a new car marque founded by Changan, has just revealed its first production model set to ship in the third quarter of the year: the SL03. At 4,820 x 1,890 x 1,480 millimeters long, wide and tall respectively with 2.9 meters of wheelbase, the liftback comes closest to the Skoda Superb in terms of dimensions. It boasts a sportier overall appearance compared to the Superb, with frameless doors, flush handles, a what-tail rear spoiler with the company badge on it, and 19-inch wheels coming standard. A panoramic sunroof and a heads-up display are both included, too.

Inside, the only physical buttons you can find reside on the steering wheel and the doors. The dashboard houses a duo of displays, and the central 14.6-inch screen can automatically swivel by up to 15 degrees to face either the driver or the passenger. You only need to extend a hand to touch the screen for it to turn towards you. The car will be available in all-electric, hydrogen and serial hybrid forms. The images here only show the EV version, but in two different trim levels.

The entry spec has 218 PS and comes with a 58-kWh traction battery, which gives it up to 515 km on a charge according to the CLTC standard adopted in China. The other spec benefits from 258 PS, a 78-kWh battery and up to 712 km of claimed range. From what we know about CLTC, though, you should slash the estimation by approximately one-third to get the actual range.

In its hybrid flavor, the car will use the 258-PS electric motor mentioned above in conjunction with a smaller 30-kWh battery and a 1.5-liter, 95-PS petrol engine tasked with keeping it charged at all times. With the battery and the tank maxed out, the car will cover around 1,200 km, the company claims. As for the hydrogen version, the only thing we know is that it will offer around 700 km of driving with the tanks full.

Sales will begin in the third quarter of the year. The company says the vehicle comes prepped for Level 3 self-driving, but the technology stays inactive for the time being. A future over-the-air update should unlock the functionality.
