U.S.-based premium camper maker Bowlus has unveiled the Volterra, which it calls the world’s first fully electric trailer. Equipped with solar panels and a large battery, it accumulates plenty of power for the appliances on board and even some external ones, too. The innovative solar panel roof is rated at a nominal 480W and is said to be 12 percent more efficient than conventional designs. It also weighs around one-third less than standard solar panels.
The energy received is stored in a LiFePo4
battery rated at 17 kWh. The charging occurs whenever there is sun, including
when the trailer is in motion. Parking it enables you to unfold a couple of
extra solar panels for more electricity. A 20A charging port is provided for
charging. Bowlus believes the trailer can extend the range of your EV by around105 kilometers.
Depending on your chosen version, the
trailer weighs between 1.5 – 1.8 metric tons.
According to Bowlus’ calculations, transporting it with an EV will only reduce
its range to around 70 percent of the original.
Another interesting feature comes in the
form of Starlink internet support. Amenities on board also include a kitchen
with a fridge, a freezer and an induction stove, transforming sleeping places,
a split system for air conditioning, heated floors, and a shower cabin that’s
separate from the WC.
Prices start from a cool US$ 310,000.
