Soon after Abarth itself released a series of images of the 600e undergoing testing in prototype guise, spy photographers were able to snap some photos of the upcoming electric crossover up close. We managed to spot an Abarth 600e prototype parked alongside the standard Fiat version while charging. While the camouflage of the two cars helps to hide their identity, we can still see that the Abarth adopts a more aggressive design than the regular Fiat-branded 600e. This is particularly evident at the front where there is a revised grille and a sculpted bumper. Additionally, the wheel arches of the Abarth appear wider than the normal Fiat model. The most obvious change made to the rear of the Abarth version is the fitment of an aggressive diffuser.
Stellantis recently announced that the
Abarth 600e has been co-developed by Abarth and Stellantis Motorsport and will
produce a respectable 237 hp, a significant increase over the 154 hp of the regular
Fiat 600e. It is not yet clear if the Abarth model will have a single electric
motor or a dual-motor setup. If it has a single motor then it will likely be
front-wheel-drive like the smaller Abarth 500e.
Most technical details about the car
remain under wraps but it will apparently feature a bespoke limited-slip
differential and an upgraded braking system, which is usual Abarth upgrades. It
may also have a sound generator like the 500e in an attempt to make it sound a
little more exhilarating and more akin to driving a combustion-powered model.
We anticipate the Abarth 600e to be
underpinned by the same 54 kWh battery pack as the regular model, although the
greater focus on performance will inevitably result in a drop in range.
