The collaboration between Geely’s financial backing and Volvo’s engineering expertise has given rise to Lynk & Co, a Chinese startup that has recently unveiled teaser images of its next vehicle, the 07 EM-P. This plug-in hybrid is anticipated to offer a substantial 585 hp, making it an interesting option for sedan enthusiasts. Teased undergoing cold weather testing, the 07-EMP still wears a tight-fitting camouflage wrap. However, hints of its design can be seen, including its slightly bulbous bulges over the front and rear wheels that suggest muscular power.
The camouflage does do a good job of
concealing the lighting elements that will likely give the shape a little more
personality. However, based on other modern Lynk & Co vehicles, we can
guess that it will have Y-shaped headlights whose fork points down, as well as
a black trim line that acts a mustache under them, and a grille down low. The
07-EMP is anticipated to utilize Volvo’s CMA Evo platform as its foundation, a
platform that has served as the basis for several other plug-in hybrids.
Notably, it shares this platform with the closely related Lynk & Co 08, a
coupe-styled crossover that the brand introduced last year.
While the automaker has not yet officially
disclosed the powertrain options for the 07 EM-P, the 08 model offers three
powertrain choices. All of them are centered around a 1.5-liter internal combustion
engine that produces 161 hp. From that starting point, two of
the variants get help from a 215 hp electric motor, for a total
system output of 375 hp. The primary distinction between these
models lies in the battery size, with the entry-level version featuring a 21.2
kWh battery and the higher trim sporting a larger 39.8 kWh battery.
Finally, the third powertrain option
combines the 1.5-liter engine with two electric motors, for a total system
output of 585 hp. It also comes equipped with the 39.8 kWh
battery pack. The Lynk & Co 07 EM-P is expected to go into production next
month, with sales to follow shortly thereafter.
