China has become the first market for the next-gen Toyota Camry. According to the joint venture of GAC and Toyota, the first sedans to go on sale will be low-end and priced from 173,800 Yuan (US$ 24,465). Customers will be choosing between a non-electrified 2.0-liter version and its mild-hybrid counterpart. The base spec produces 173 PS and has a CVT for transmission. It ships in four trim levels maxing out at 198,800 Yuan.
In turn, the hybrid version outputs a combined
197 PS from its 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine and
electric motor. The stated fuel consumption averages at 4.2 liters per 100
kilometers, which neatly translates into 56 miles per U.S. gallon. This one
starts at 181,800 Yuan before options and tops out at 208,800 Yuan.
Available options include wheels sized up
to 19 inches in diameter, panoramic roof, HUD, ventilated seatsб and up to 10
airbags. There are also 10 exterior finishes to pick from, including two-color
schemes, and three interior hues. A sports package for the cabin becomes
available at the top trim level.
Soon enough, Toyota plans to follow up
with a flagship Camry spec for China, which will combine a 2.5-liter engine
with a superior e-motor. Their exact specifications remain to be revealed. As
for the versions discussed above, their deliveries will start later in Q1 2024.
