Genesis recently announced the addition of legendary racer Jacky Ickx to its team to help transform the brand. However, during the presentation, it seems the brand may have inadvertently leaked the facelifted version of its GV60 electric SUV. If true, the changes are subtle yet effective, further aligning the vehicle with the rest of the Genesis family. The GV60 isn’t exactly long in the tooth. It launched only a few years ago to modest success. It leverages much of the same technology that one would find in a Kia EV6 or a Hyundai Ioniq 5. What it has that those cars don’t is a bunch of luxury features and a quieter ride.
A since-deleted video from the
introduction of Mr. Ickx shows what appears to be the updated GV60 with a tag
on the front labeled “JW F/L,” with “JW” being Genesis’ internal codename for
the electric SUV. Therefore, there’s little doubt that this is some sort of
GV60, based on still images captured and posted on Bobaedream and other social
media channels. Apparently, the refreshed GV60 is poised to receive a sleeker
front end design, accentuating the distinctive fishnet grille treatment found
on other Genesis models. We can see large vertical intake strakes bookending a
new trapezoidal grille that’s wide at the bottom and shrinks at the midpoint of
the front end. A small wide oval appears in the very center of the grille.
What appears to be a sensor array sits in
the midst of the fishnet grille. To be clear, these are very subtle and simple
changes. Other shots appear to show the silhouette of the same vehicle and
there are no noticeable changes from the current car. The lighting appears to
be identical to Genesis’ double light bar signature on the back and on the
front. Since this isn’t a U.S. spec car, it lacks the same physical wing
mirrors seen in the States. Nevertheless, the changes we see here are very
similar to design cues from other cars in the family like the GV70.
We don’t know if the updated GV60 will
include any changes in the powertrain department or when Genesis plans to
formally introduce the EV. However, given its presence in the video, we suspect
it should happen later this year, arriving in North America within the next 12
months, either as a 2025 MY or 2026 MY.
