MG has taken the wraps off the new ZS Hybrid+. It’s an eco-friendly B-SUV that seeks to build on the success of the existing ZS, which is the brand’s second best-selling vehicle in the UK. While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the crossover features an expressive front fascia with an oval grille that is flanked by vertical air curtains. They’re joined by LED lighting units and rain-sensing wipers. Moving further back, we can see plastic body cladding and an upward sweeping shoulder line. Designers also gave the model an expansive greenhouse and 17-inch alloy wheels.
The exterior styling is a bit of a mixed
bag, but the same can’t be said about the cabin as it features a minimalist and
upscale design. MG didn’t go into many specifics, but drivers will find a
7-inch digital instrument cluster as well as a 12.3-inch infotainment system
with GPS navigation, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. Other highlights include
an automatic climate control system, a six-speaker audio system, and black
cloth seats. The MG Pilot suite of driver assistance systems comes standard and
includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and
active emergency braking with pedestrian and bicyclist detection. They’re
joined by blind spot detection, forward collision warning, rear cross traffic
alert, and traffic jam assist.
Customers looking for more luxury can
spend an additional £2,500 to upgrade to the Trophy trim. It’s well-worth the
extra dough as the range-topping variant features privacy glass, a surround
view camera, and larger 18-inch wheels. Buyers will also find heated front
seats, a heated steering wheel, a power driver’s seat, and “leather style
upholstery.”
On the performance front, there’s a
1.5-liter engine, a 1.83 kWh battery pack, and an electric motor that develops
134 hp and 250 Nm of torque. This gives the
crossover a combined output of 193 hp and a 0-100
km/h time of 8.7 seconds. More importantly, the model has a WLTP combined fuel
economy rating of 55.4 mpg. The ZS Hybrid+ will arrive in the United Kingdom
this October and cost £ 21,995. MG is currently accepting orders and we can
expect to learn more details closer to launch.
