Novitec released a series of upgrades for both the Ferrari 296 GTB and 296 GTS earlier this year, but by the tuner’s standards, both of those creations were quite subtle. The same can’t be said about its latest project, the 296 N-Largo. As far as modified 296s go, this one might just be perfect. The exterior is the first area of the mid-engined Ferrari that Novitec has worked on. Some claim the standard 296 looks a little too refined and a little too subtle, given the extraordinary performance it offers. The tuner’s solution has been to craft several new carbon fiber panels for the car, which include flared fenders up front that add 6 cm to the car’s width and even more dramatic fenders at the rear making it 12 cm wider.
Complementing the big new fenders is a
customized front bumper that now incorporates an aerodynamic splitter. There’s
also new carbon panels on the hood and louvers on the front fenders to vent air
from the wheel wells. Connecting the flared front and rear fenders is a carbon
sill, and the car also rocks a pair of lightweight wing mirrors that wouldn’t
look out of place on a Le Mans prototype.
Plenty is going on at the rear of the 296
N-Largo, too. First is the wing. Ferrari traditionally doesn’t like its cars
with spoilers but Novitec’s carbon fiber wing claims it adds downforce over the
rear wheels. Those who find the look of the wing a little too jarring can opt
for a ducktail spoiler or a carbon fiber cover over the standard hydraulic
wing. Completing the upgrades to the bodywork is a custom trunk lid and engine
cover, as well as a new carbon fiber diffuser. Tying everything together are
bespoke 22×12.5-inch rear and 22×9.5-inch wheels co-developed with Vossen.
Novitec has opted against going mad with
powertrain upgrades but has managed to extract a little extra power from the
2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 and its electric motors. These changes include
new 100-cell catalytic converters and a high-performance exhaust, bumping total
output up to 856 hp. Customers can choose between a stainless steel exhaust or
an Inconel version with gold plating.
