VDS GT 001
VDS
Racing Adventures, a Belgian family-run race team have been around for quite
some time. Since 1964 to be exact. But now the team’s current boss, Raphaël van
der Straten, has decided he’s tired of competing in cars produced by other
manufacturers and has developed his own car, the VDS GT 001-R. The VDS GT 001-R
will make its debut at the 24 Hours of Dubai in January of next year. However
VDS also intend to produce 22 street-legal examples of the car, called the VDS
GT 001, which they’ll be putting up for sale.
For
the last four years VDS Racing Adventures have been campaigning with various
Ford Mustang race cars. It’s fitting therefore that the VDS GT 001 features
some styling elements reminiscent of Detroit’s most famous muscle car –
especially up front. The angular lines are quite different from almost anything
else on the road, with the possible exception of the wacky Spada Codatronca TS.
The
VDS GT 001 and its racing sibling are based on a lengthened carbon fiber
chassis from a Gillet Vertigo .5 Spirit racer, and share the same
Maserati-sourced, V8 engine. In the VDS GT 001 and GT 001-R this engine is
tuned to produce 408 horsepower and sends the power to the rear wheels though a
six-speed sequential gearbox.
