Opel Insignia
The
currently sold Opel Insignia is in its first generation and debuted in 2008.
The Chevrolet Malibu-equivalent offering for Europe is due to enter the second
generation in 2017. The official debut is quite far from now, but significant
technical details have already emerged.
According
to a new report by auto motor und sport, the next-gen Opel Insignia will have
its market launch towards the end of 2017. Although it’s a little premature to
speculate, since all-new models generally go on sale in Europe soon after their
motorshow debut, we can expect the next-gen model’s debut to happen at the 2017
Frankfurt Motor Show.
The
next-gen model will be significantly larger than the current one, as per the
report. The wheelbase will grow around 10 cm. However, increased dimensions
won’t lead to an increment in the weight. Instead, the next-gen model will be
200 kg lighter, undisclosed sources have told the publication. The cabin space
will come nearly close to the Skoda Superb, suggests the report.
Earlier
reports say that the design of the second generation model will be inspired by
the Opel Monza concept that was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) in
September 2013. The rendering published by the German publication previews the
next-gen Insignia Sports Tourer and seems to be inspired from the Monza
concept.
The
new report states that the company plans to offer OnStar Wi-Fi hotspot in the
all-new model and the engineers are working on a head-up display and a large
digital dashboard display like the one seen in the Monza concept. The concept
model features a total of 18 LED projectors that create a full-width digital
dashboard. The whole display of the sweeping dashboard, including the
background, can be individually configured.
