All-New
Volt 220
Irish
e-bike maker Volt Motorcycles Unveiled their latest creation, the Volt 220 at
The Carol Nash Irish Motorobike and Scooter Show (RDS) which took place between
February 27 and March 1, 2015.
The
Volt 220 is the company’s fully-faired sportbike. The headlight features twin
projectors and LED DRL strips for illumination. The front forks are upside down
units to give better handling and dynamics, while the overall weight has been
kept as low as possible, at just 115 kg. This also means that the motor and
batteries are not exactly the largest that can be found on an electric
motorcycle. The Volt 220 comes with a top speed of 100 kmph and a range of 120
km. This means that the bike is good for a regular city run, making it quite
effortless to commute to and fro between work and home.
Volt
Motorcycles will also make upgrading the 220 a possibility. There is a larger
battery pack that can be purchased separately and would increase the total
range of the motorcycle to 200 km, while the top speed sadly remains the same.
“Most
interest we have had so far is from the urban rider who wants a low running
cost solution for their commute. When you consider that the average commute is
around 20 kilometers a day and that an electric alternative that will cost less
than € 200 (US$ 225) to run a year, it makes great financial sense. We are not
looking to replace but to supplement riders’ experiences and save them money in
the long run. Of course, we want to do all of this while keeping the
motorcyclist experience exciting and fun as well,” Volt CEO Colin Darby says.
The
prices of the Volt 220 are yet to be announced, but with the specs we are quite
sure that it would be pretty affordable. Alongside the Volt 220, the company
also showcased the Volt 70, 80 scooters and the Volt 90 maxi scooter, and also
a City 60 fun scoot.
