Bentley
Grand Convertible
The Bentley Grand Convertible is the ultimate expression of
British automotive luxury, the most sophisticated open-top car ever created by
Bentley. The distinctive yet understated exterior design is brought to life by
hand using traditional coach building methods and the finest materials.
The Mulsanne-based car features a 530 bhp 6.75-litre V8
producing 1000 Nm of torque under a silver ‘liquid metal’ bonnet. The rest of
the bodywork is painted in Sequin Blue – originally a bespoke Bentley colour
created from a sequin on a customer’s gown. In that car, the engine is capable
of delivering a 0-62 mph time of 4.9 seconds.
Inside the Grand Convertible the story is one of equal
grandeur. The elegant interior has supremely luxurious seating, featuring new
“lofted” diamond quilting stitched by hand and the convertible’s signature
feature, shaped by the dynamic flow of yacht design, is the largest
book-matched tonneau cover ever crafted. The linen-coloured quilted leather
covering the four seats features contrasting cross-stitching in the same Sequin
Blue colour, while Beluga leather is used around the top of the doors and
across the back of the car.
Bentley boss, Wolfgang Dürheimer, said that the car “will be
a highly exclusive, limited edition collector’s piece.” According to our
insider, that means production will just about make it into double figures,
with a price tag well in excess of even the £ 252,000 for the new Mulsanne
Speed. He also confirmed that, due to the interest already in the car,
Bentley’s engineers were examining ways to put the car into production. This
concept car showcases Bentley’s ability to create a pinnacle convertible grand
tourer, while embodying elegance beyond compare.
