Galpin Fisker Rocket

Galpin Auto Sports and reknowned Danish automotive designer Henrik Fisker (the man responsible for Aston Martin's famed good looks, and the slightly troubled car company which bears his name) teamed up to build one of the most outrageous examples of the Ford Mustang ever created. Called the "Rocket", the car is a 725 horsepower monster Ford Mustang clad in a bespoke carbon fiber suit.

The exterior design of the Galpin-Fisker Rocket was undertaken by Fisker, whose love of the diamond shape can be clearly seen in the car's styling. The project was initiated when Fisker apparently approached one of his friends, Galpin President Beau Boeckmann, with some sketches of a high-performance Mustang. On seeing the images, Boeckmann decided to get the ball rolling on a prototype model which would lead to a limited numbers production car.

The car is based on a sixth-generation Ford Mustang, and the time period from the initial sketches being created, to the car going on display at the 2014 LA Auto Show, was just over three months. The Galpin Auto Sports and Fisker say the Rocket features styling inspiration from '60s and '70s Mustangs, but in reality it looks much more futuristic than that.

The hand-laid carbon fiber bodywork was created by Metalcrafters Inc. a speciality application and concept car fabrication company. The car features a large hexagonal grille with two driving lights integrated into the top corners. The headlights are the same as the production car, but otherwise the entire front end, including the vented hood and wider wheel arches, are new.

In profile the Rocket shows off its elongated nose, restyled doors, pumped-up wheel arches and it’s retro-style 5-spoke 21-inch ADV.1 wheels which hide 15-inch Brembo brakes behind.

The rear view of the Galpin-Fisker Rocket Mustang is dominated by the huge "ROCKET" lettering sitting on the back of the trunk lid spoiler. A new rear bumper with a diffuser and quad exhaust tips is also present.

Powering the Rocket is a supercharged 5.0 litre V8 which produces 725 horsepower. Galpin Auto Sports haven't gone into any detail yet about other drivetrain or chassis enhancements.

The Galpin-Fisker Rocket might not have the same high-class appeal of the sublime Galpin Ford GTR1. But as far as modified Mustangs go, it's up there with the best - although it's still no Hoonigan!

The price is said to be in the region of $100,000.
