Hyundai
i30 N Concept
According
to a report by TheKoreanCarBlog, Hyundai could debut the Hyundai i30 N Concept
at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt scheduled in September.
The
manufacturer aims to garner the reaction of the public to the sportier version
of the i30 hatchback with the reveal of the Hyundai i30 N Concept. If it
receives a positive response in Europe, Hyundai may consider a production
version after the launch of the third generation i30 in 2017.
Hyundai
had announced that the ‘N Performance’ programme will build sportier and
powerful variants of the normal road cars at the debut of the rally spec i20
WRC two years ago. The N Performance division is named after the manufacturer’s
Namyang Research and Development facilities located in South Korea.
Since
then there was not much that was revealed officially about the cars that could
receive the N badge, but some test mules of the i30 were spotted testing at the
Nurburgring in Germany. It was speculated that the i30 N could employ a
variation of the 2.0 Litre Turbocharged GDi engine that was seen in the RM15
Racing Midship 2015 Concept showcased at the Seoul Motor Show in April.
The
engine is rated to produce around 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque and will feature
an all wheel drive system. The introduction of the all wheel drive system would
require significant modifications to be made to the body structure.
The
performance hatch will also feature an up-rated suspension system along with
bigger wheels and powerful brakes. It is also being said that the manufacturer
could be developing a sporty version of the popular i20 hatchback.
