Chevrolet
CODE 130R Concept
The
Chevrolet CODE 130R was unveiled at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. There’s a heavy
dose of retro mixed into the car’s bodywork, but there’s also a number of
styling features, especially at the front, which tie it into the company’s
overall design philosophy. Perhaps most interestingly of all though is the fact
it’s been engineered to accept a RWD powertrain.
Like
the TRU 140S concept, the CODE 130R was designed with younger buyers in mind.
According to U.S. Census data, there are 80 million American consumers
approaching 30. They represent 40 percent of today’s potential car-buying
public, and a combined $1 trillion in purchasing power. To attract some of
those dollars, the Chevrolet CODE 130R is designed to offer affordable but
entertaining motoring.
Powering
the Chevrolet CODE 130R concept is a 150 horsepower, 1.4 litre turbocharged
engine with eAssist. By shutting off the engine at stops, recapturing braking
energy, and smoothing torque delivery during acceleration, this system helps
balance turbocharged performance with
fuel economy. The proposed standard transmission is a six-speed
automatic. But for those who like to row their own gears, a six-speed manual
option is also being touted.
