Chevy Camaro Performance
Package
At the Chicago Auto Show, Chevrolet
introduce the all-new 1LE packages which it believes can outperform the mighty
Mustang GT350 so inevitably, GM Authority asked lead Camaro engineer Al
Oppenheiser if the turbo-four model will receive a similar performance pack.
“I’ll give you that answer
by saying a surprising number of components are shared between the V6 and
turbo-four, so the opportunity is there. And, to be honest with you, I would
much rather have our four-cylinder customers buying performance parts out of
our performance catalog or even buy something straight from the factory versus
buying aftermarket parts,” he said.
With the V6 and V8 1LE
packages, customers receive upgrades like improved suspension, wider and
stickier tires, larger brakes and in the case of the V8, an electronic limited
slip differential. All of these components have been developed to improve track
performance and Oppenheiser seems keen to bring such improvements to the
four-cylinder model.
“You need the aftermarket,
but if you want to really get the lap times that we’re able to stand behind,
it’s always best, in my opinion, to get it straight from the factory”, he said.
