2017 Abarth 595
The time has finally come for the hot
little Abarth to receive the facelift upgrades of the revamped 500 and with
that came a slight power increase too.
The turbocharged 1.4-litre T-Jet engine
now makes 145 hp in the entry level model and 165 hp in the Turismo, 5hp more in
both occasions. The more powerful Competizione version remains at 180 hp, making
it capable of a 0-100 km/h) in 6.7 seconds.
All versions come paired with a manual
five-speed gearbox, with Abarth offering the option of a robotized manual with
shift paddles. The range-topping manual Competizione model will also be
available with a mechanical limited slip differential for the first time,
derived straight from the 695 Biposto. A
set of Koni FSD shock absorbers is fitted to both the Turismo and Competizione
models, with the latter also getting a high-performance Record Monza exhaust
with dual mode system as standard.
The new Abarth 595 features a redesigned
front end with a bigger air intake that increases cooling capacity by 18 per
cent and an aggressive rear diffuser. The 17in Granturismo wheels -offered as
standard on Turismo models- are seven per cent lighter than before, and with a
50 per cent larger ventilating surface.
The front and rear lights adopt the same
revisions we first saw in the latest Fiat 500 as expected. Abarth has added
Modena Yellow, Abarth Red, three-layer Iridato White and the Scorpione paint
finishes in the list of available colors, bringing the number up to a total 15
different shades to choose from.
Fiat’s naughty department has also
refreshed the cabin with new technical materials, including Alcantara and
carbon fiber while new upholstery options are available across the range.
Entry-level 595 models get specific fabric seats with increased lateral
support, while the Turismo version is offered with a choice between black, tan
or red leather seats. The top-of-the-range Competizione comes fitted with the
hardcore Corsa by Sabelt seats.
There is also a new flat-bottom steering
wheel while the dashboard fascia is finished in different colors, depending on
the version: matching body color for the 595, matte grey for the Turismo and
tar cold grey for the Competizione. The latter can be had with an optional
carbon dashboard fascia as well. As expected, the new Uconnect
infotainment system is also here, offering a 5-inch touchscreen display as
standard. Abarth will also offer a 7-inch version of the same system which comes
with a high definition screen and a special telemetry app with preloaded
circuits to give you information on your driving performance.
The updated Abarth 595 range will hit
the European market in June, with a full gallery of the model as well as the full
range specs to arrive sooner, so stay tuned.
