Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Cabriolet
Mercedes-AMG have launched their new C63
Cabrio and C63 S Cabrio models at this year's NY Auto Show, with power outputs
of 469 HP and 503 HP respectively.
Setting both models apart from the
standard C-Class Cabriolet are the flared wheel arches, the wide track and the
large wheels which add to the convertible model's powerful look, though it's
overall performance that impresses the most when it comes to AMG-badged cars.
Agility-wise, the C63 Cabrio makes use of the sophisticated AMG Ride Control
sport suspension with adaptive damping adjustment, a rear-axle limited-slip
differential and in the case of the C63 S version, dynamic engine mounts.
By fall 2016, Mercedes US customers will
be able to enjoy the largest selection ever of Mercedes-AMG C-Class vehicles,
now available in Sedan, Coupe and Cabriolet forms. The C63 and C63 S models
feature a V8 Biturbo engine in two output ratings, whereas the new all-wheel
drive C43 comes with a V6 Biturbo unit.
Of the two C63 Cabrio version, the 'S'
is the fastest with a 0 to 96 km/h sprint time of 4 seconds flat and
an electronically limited top speed of 280 km/h. The entry-level C63
Cabrio will hit 96 km/h in 4.1 seconds, which is basically the same thing only
this version will be limited to 250 km/h. Performance is achieved
with the help of the AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed sport transmission which plays
a major part in the new C63 Cabrio's sporty character.
Another difference between the two C63
Cabrio versions is the rear-axle limited slip differential which is mechanical
for the C63 and electronic in the C63 S (where it's also standard).
As for the "convertible part",
Mercedes-AMG have managed to replicate the Coupe's roof line with the
multi-layered fabric soft top, while the matte chrome beltline molding extends
as far as the soft-top compartment. Other design elements worth mentioning are
the laterally positioned optical air outlet openings, the narrow rear
reflectors, the chrome-plated twin tailpipes and the narrow, body-colored lip
spoiler located on the trunk lid.
Inside the C63 Cabrio you'll find black
MB-Tex trim with contrasting top stitching on the instrument panel, a 3-spoke
Performance steering wheel, carbon-fiber gauges, Performance seats (as an
alternative to the standard Sports seats), plus intelligent functions such as
the standard AIRSCARF neck-level heating and the optional AIRCAP deflector. The
fully automatic acoustic soft top is available in black, dark brown, dark blue
and dark red.
Those interested in knowing about some
key optional extras will be happy to hear that they can dress up the C63 Cabrio
with goodies such as the AMG Performance exhaust system, AMG ceramic high-performance
brakes, AMG Night package, AMG Exterior Carbon-Fiber package I & II, plus a
few other unique interior options such as the previously mentioned Performance
seats, but also two-tone nappa leather in either red pepper/black or platinum
white/black.
In terms of safety the C63 Cabriolet
comes standard with Attention Assist and Collision Prevention Assist Plus,
which helps to prevent rear-end collisions.
The new Mercedes-AMG C63 S Cabrio will
also be available as an "Edition 1" model for the market launch -
which will only come in designo cashmere white magno, with chrome-plated
tailpipe trims and high-gloss black lip spoiler.
US sales are expected to start by fall
2016.
