BMW 3 Series (G20)
Germany’s AutoBild magazine has carried
a rendering of the next generation BMW 3 Series on the cover of its recent
edition. Codenamed BMW G20, the executive saloon is expected to arrive in
showrooms in 2018.
It seems that the next 3 series will
borrow cues from the BMW Vision Luxury Concept. The headlights as well as the
kidney grilles are sharper than the current 3 Series, and the bumper has also
been redesigned.
As with all future RWD models from BMW,
the next 3 Series will ride on the CLAR modular platform that integrates
materials like carbon fiber, aluminum and high strength steel. It’s expected to
be significantly lighter than the current 3 Series, and will rival the
aluminum-based Jaguar XE.
The next 3 Series could get BMW’s B-family
range of engines that include a 1.5-liter three cylinder turbo, 2.0-liter four
cylinder petrol and diesel lineup and a range-topping M340i variant with a
3.0-liter inline six engine. An 8-speed automatic could be standard.
