2017 Mercedes-Benz G-Class
The next-generation Mercedes-Benz
G-Class, arriving next year, will bring with it a number of engine and interior
updates while retaining the same boxy shape as all other iterations.
The chassis of the current G-Wagen is tipped
to remain largely unchanged for the new model, meaning it'll still be a steel
frame unit incorporating a live rear axle. Given that the G-Class has never
been a serious driver's car however, we can't imagine any customers being upset
about its traditional set-up.
More importantly, customers will be
concerned about the vehicle's interior and, appropriately, Mercedes is said to
be focusing its energy there. According to Autocar, the car itself could be
widened, therefore resulting in a larger cabin which will be appointed with
luscious new materials and technology. One key inclusion will be the latest
infotainment system from the German marque.
Elsewhere, it is said that the model
will adopt a larger unchanged range of engines, including the twin-turbo
4.0-liter V8, the older turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 and a boosted 6.0-liter V12
will be offered. At least one new engine is expected to arrive, in the form of
the 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel from the E-Class. If it carries over
unchanged, the entry-level 2018 G-Class can be expected to produce 254 hp and
457 lb-ft of torque.
