All-New 2017 Opel Insignia
The new Opel Insignia/Buick Regal has
been out there testing since last year, yet has just recently dropped most of
its heavy black vinyl camouflage, relying now only on the typical dizzying
foil. Most of the its lines are still hidden underneath, but thanks to the fake
body panels coming off, we can start to better-picture what the car will
ultimately look like.
For starters, this marks the first time
that we can see the new Insignia's rear lights. There are also a couple of
overall cues that seem to have been taken from the Monza concept which Opel
revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in 2013 - talking about the angular
headlights and the more aggressive grille.
As for the interior, the dashboard being almost entirely covered up, we did
spot a similar design theme with that found inside the new Opel Astra. Opel's
second-gen Insignia is set to launch with just two body styles instead of
three, as the 4-door sedan has been scrapped in favor of the 5-door hatchback
version - rumored to be joined by the Sports Tourer (wagon) about 6 months
after its debut.
In terms of comfort and interior space,
Opel is said to be aiming at the Skoda Superb. The Insignia's body will indeed
grow slightly, though the biggest changes will be marked by the longer
wheelbase (10 cm), the some 200 kg of weight it's expected to
shed, as well as the addition of new safety and connectivity systems.
We're expecting Opel to reveal their
all-new Insignia this year in Paris.
