New Brabus 850 6.0 Biturbo

After the presentation of the new 850 6,0 Biturbo Cabrio on the sidelines of the 24h of Le Mans 2016, Brabus has dropped additional photos and details on their Mercedes-AMG S63-based convertible.

The Germans have made a name for themselves by turning new Mercedes-Benz models into mega-horsepower super stars and with the 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio, they claim to have created the world’s most powerful and fastest four-seater convertible.

To claim that title, Brabus took the stock Mercedes-AMG S63 Convertible and dialed its 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 up to eleven, increasing displacement to 6.0-liters and either replacing or thoroughly revising many engine components and peripherals, from the high-performance connecting rods and turbochargers with larger compressor units, to the modified exhaust manifolds and ECU.

These upgrades result in an increase of 261 hp and 550 Nm of peak torque, from 577 hp and 900 Nm to 838 hp and 1,450 Nm respectively. All that power is transferred to the road by the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system and a seven-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters allowing for a sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds - a 0.4 sec improvement over the factory S63, and to 200 km/h in 9.4 seconds. Top speed is restricted to 350 km/h, not because the 850 can’t go faster, but because of tire limitations.

Brabus fits the 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio with a suspension module that can lower the ride height up to 15mm or 0.6 inches and which is specifically calibrated for the use of ultra-low-profile tires size 255/35 ZR 21 at the front and 295/30 ZR 21 on the rear axle, or optionally, 22-inch rims on 255/30 ZR 22 tires front and 295/25 ZR 22 rear.

Along with the lowered stance and bigger rims and wider tires, Brabus developed a carbon fiber aerodynamic kit comprising of a front spoiler and intake surrounds, rear diffuser, boot lid spoiler and mirror caps. For the interior, the German tuner offers a bevy of options, ranging from scuff plates with backlit BRABUS logo and genuine carbon and aluminum trims, to a custom speedometer and a full upholstery makeover.

The 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio can be ordered as complete new car or by upgrading an existing S63 AMG Convertible, with Brabus backing the tune with three-year or 100,000-kilometer warranty, whichever comes first.
