Porsche 365 Outlaw Coupe
Getting your hands on a
car that actually raced the border-to-border event is a rare opportunity that
can easily break your bank account, and here’s where this beautifully-built 356
“Outlaw Coupe” comes in.
Manufactured to capture the spirit of
the event, this little model started life as an original 356 B T6. According to
Paul Stephens, the dealer responsible for its sale, the vehicle was
manufactured in 1962 and delivered to Competition Motors, in Hollywood, USA.
It spent most of its life Stateside until
it was imported to Holland, stripped to the bare metal, painted in black
cellulose finish, and parked in a barn where it stayed until March 2011.
After acquiring the shell and sixteen
large boxes worth of spare parts, the 356 B’s current owner delivered it to P R
Services Ltd, in Billericay, Essex, where the process of turning it into a
Panamericana-racer replica began. Porsche’s “Carrera” moniker first appeared on
the 356, commemorating the company’s success in the Carrera Panamericana race,
that’s why its holder felt it was right to honor the vehicle’s pedigree.
It even received a plethora of modern
upgrades in the process, including disc brakes all around, a bespoke stainless
steel exhaust system and power steering.
