2017 VW Golf R Wagon
Seeing this restyled R version in Wagon
form testing in the mountains comes as little surprise.
Since only the front end is camouflaged, it's safe
to say that all the minor tweaks have taken place in that particular area. This
means we should see a new bumper, new grille, headlights and maybe some new
graphics for the taillights as well.
Inside we'll likely see a few small upgrades, from
new materials, to a larger touchscreen, improved connectivity and maybe even a
few new safety features.
Powering the facelifted Golf R Wagon will be the
same 300 PS 2.0-liter TSI unit found in today's car, so the 0-100 km/h sprint time should still be executed in 5.1 seconds. However, it is possible
that VW could through a few upgrades in there and make the engine a bit more
punchy and efficient, so fingers crossed.
Still, even with 300 PS and 380 Nm of
torque at its disposal, the Golf R Wagon/Variant remains pretty much unmatched
in terms of performance by anything other than its SEAT Leon Cupra ST sibling,
which packs 290 PS and 350 Nm (of its own.
It's unclear when and where VW
will be unveiling the this Golf R Wagon, though it's unlikely we'll see it
before the German automaker shows us the regular facelifted Golf.
