Range Rover and Discovery Sport Hybrid (rumor)
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is working on two new hybrid
models to offer on select Range Rovers and Land Rovers. Autocar states that JLR
is first developing a new plug-in hybrid powertrain set to be offered on the
Range Rover Sport. It will be based around the firm's four-cylinder Ingenium
petrol engine which without electrical assistance, delivers 295 hp.
Mated to the engine will be an electric motor built
in house as well as a battery pack situated under the floor of the trunk. All
of these systems will be designed to work with the company's existing
eight-speed automatic transmission built by ZF.
After debuting on the Range Rover Sport, the setup
could be offered on select Jaguar F-Pace, XF and XJ models. As for the second
hybrid system being developed, it will be designed for the Range Rover Evoque
and Land Rover Discovery Sport. It'll utilize a three-cylinder diesel engine
with an electric turbocharger and a small electric motor. Additionally, a
48-volt electrical system will lace the car and provide power to the water pump
and air conditioner.
The hybrid Evoque and Discovery Sport models aren't
expected to debut until the end of 2018.
