2017 BMW K1600GT
The K1600GT hasn’t avoided the facelift for 2017
either, with the class-defining 1649 cc inline-six now being Euro4 compliant,
with no change to its output of 160 bhp and 129 ft-lb of torque.
But the spec and styling have all received some
upgrades. The excellent Dynamic ESA semi-active suspension is now standard
fitment, with both Road and Dynamic modes available – the former offering the
best of all worlds for optimum coverage, while the latter operates within a
tighter range for sportier riding conditions.
More fun is the addition of reverse assist, operated
by a selector button, then pressing the starter motor. This will be a big boost
for smaller riders who otherwise struggle to paddle the 319 kg bike backwards.
The instrument cluster looks rather familiar, but
has got new dials and K1600GT emblazoned across the speedo. There are myriad
other design tweaks to the fairings and wind deflectors, which BMW say has
cleaned up airflow over and around the GT.
For anyone worried about ending up in a hedge in the
middle of nowhere, the firm’s Intelligent Emergency Call system is now
available as a factory option, too. The system alerts BMW’s emergency response
centre if the bike detects that it’s been crashed, and if the rider can’t be contacted,
then the emergency services will be sent to the bike’s location.
