2017 Porsche 991 GT3 (spy
shot)
Porsche decided to put
the final touches on the updated 911 GT3 without any sort of camouflage on the
test car, giving us a first proper look on the refreshed bodywork.
The changes
are really subtle, with Porsche just wanting to bring the 911 GT3 in line with
the rest of the range – at least visually. A pair of new bumpers front and rear
along with a set of the latest lights, complete with LED indicators and daytime
running lights, all around is really the main new features.
The main news are under
the skin, as Porsche decided it’s time to bring back the manual gearbox option.
Specifically the six-speed unit that debuted in the limited 911R which is a new
gearbox and likely to be offered also in the updated GT3 RS. The normally
aspirated 3.8-litre flat six will remain in its place, making the GT3 the only
non-turbo model in the range while power is expected to be increased slightly
from the current 468 hp.
Since this is Porsche
we’re talking about, expect to see minor chassis updates and changes, just to
make the new 991.2 GT3 ever more desirable and, well, faster. With the test car
now running around without any camouflage, Porsche is going to officially
reveal the whole thing in the coming days, so stay tuned.
