Dodge Challenger GT AWD (rumor)
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has confirmed
that an all-wheel drive Dodge Challenger will launch for the 2017. The Challenger GT will offer a drivetrain not found
anywhere else in the muscle car market and could attract new customers to the
brand.
While the insanely-powerful SRT Hellcat model could
certainly benefit from sending its grunt through all four wheels, Dodge will
instead equip the Challenger GT with its 3.6-liter naturally-aspirated
Pentastar V6 engine.
This engine delivers 305 hp and 268 lb-ft
of torque in the entry-level Challenger and in all likelihood, these figures
will remain the same for the all-wheel drive GT.
One confirmed change between the rear-wheel drive
and all-wheel drive models are the different fuel economy ratings. The Challenger GT will be slightly less fuel efficient, rated at 18 mpg in the
city and 27 mpg in the highway compared to the 19 mpg city/30 mpg highway of
the rear-wheel drive model.
Expect to hear more about the Challenger GT before
the end of the year.
