Next SsangYong Korando EV
According to a Dutch publication, the
next-generation Ssangyong Korando will be offered in an all-electric guise and
have a 300 km range over the European driving cycle.
The new Korando will take
design inspiration from last year's XAV-Adventure Concept and that the electric
technology underpinning the model will come thanks to parent company Mahindra
& Mahidra.
While no further details about the car are given, it
is thought that it will be sold alongside conventionally-powered variants,
providing customers with the opportunity to select for what powertrain best
suits them.
It is possible that the car's setup could draw on
technology from the Tivoli EVR concept unveiled last year. If that is the case
then an electric motor delivering 127 hp could be used. Where the EVR concept
had a small petrol range extender, the electric Korando is expected to do
without, meaning it'll have to be recharged from a electricity socket.
Considering the rapidly expanding electric vehicle
market and Ssangyong's current lack of a production electric vehicle, it seems
appropriate the brand wants to launch one based around the Korando, due some
time in 2019.
