BMW G310R Flat Tracker
The world's first custom built BMW G310R has been
unveiled in Japan. The custom built BMW G310R Flat Tracker was customised and
built by Japanese custom bike builder Takashi Nihira at his workshop called
'Wedge paint & custom motorcycle' in Tokyo, Japan.
BMW Motorrad Japan has commissioned the G310R Flat
Tracker. Takashi Nihira was given full freedom to customise the bike as it did
not come with any brief. Nihira comes with a wide experience in custom bike
building. Much before he began his shop, he worked as a mechanic, painter, and
metal shaper in a car dealership.
Except for the engine, chassis, and the suspension
used on the stock bike, the G310R Flat Tracker is completely a new bike with
the rest all custom built. Nihara has custom built the fuel tank along with the
tail section, while the rear sub-frame, swing-arm and the rear suspension
linkage is customised to compliment the flat tracker design of the bike. The
G310R Flat Tracker gets an offset liquid cooling system and the rear mono shock
is now below the tank.
Commenting about the designing the G310R Flat
Tracker the space between the rear suspension and the exhaust pipe was very
limited. So he planned on moving the rear suspension to the side of the frame.
But after he started the customisation, he intentionally put the rear
suspension right above the engine and the balance was perfect. The original air
filter was replaced with the aftermarket K&N filter along with a smaller
battery from Shorai.
Apart from the above custom built parts, the G310R
Flat Tracker boasts of LED speedometer from Motogadget and a fully customised
exhaust system the pipe curling around the custom swing-arm. Commenting on the
build, Nihira said that he never customised a bike with front air intake
device, rear exhaust, and backwards tilting engine; however, this build made it
more interesting to take on the challenge.
The BMW G310R Flat Tracker
uses the 41mm upside down (USD) front suspension. The 17-inch alloy wheels have
been replaced by a custom 19-inch alloys. It also features new lightweight disc
brakes which have been fabricated by Nihira while the callipers remain the
same. The engine remains the same with the 313 cc single cylinder unit which
churns out 34bhp and 28Nm of torque and is paired with the 6-speed gearbox.
