New Camaro Turbo AutoX and SS Slammer Concepts
Camaros making their way to the
Las Vegas strip for SEMA show are two concepts from Chevrolet named
the Turbo AutoX and SS Slammer.
Starting with the Turbo AutoX, it’s based on the
2.0-liter turbocharged Camaro sporting a hard-to-miss Shock Yellow paint-job
complemented with Pearl Nickel hood stripes and satin Carbon Flash Metallic
accents, with Chevy stating that it comes with “more agile handling that’s
ideal for autocross enthusiasts.”
The bow-tie brand says it improved the car’s roll
stiffness and turn-in performance through a series of suspension upgrades.
These include an available Chevrolet Performance lowering kit with stiffer
springs and specifically tuned dampers that lower the ride height up to 20 mm, matched to conceptual parts, including a “plus performance”
handling kit with larger stabilizer bars and stiffer suspension links, and a
strut tower brace under the hood.
Other additions include a set of conceptual 20-inch
alloy wheels wrapped in 285/35R20 tires from Goodyear, Chevrolet Performance’s
front brake kit with six-piston calipers and 370mm, two-piece slotted rotors, a
concept cold-air intake system, a short-throw shifter for the 6sp manual gearbox,
and a Chevrolet Performance exhaust system with a polished 4-inch outlet.
Whereas the focus with the Turbo AutoX was to
enhance the Camaro 2.0 Turbo’s autocross performance, with the Slammer study,
it’s all about looks or rather, ‘stance’, as Chevy puts it.
Chevy’s customized vision of the 455 hp V8-powered
Camaro SS Slammer is painted in a unique tri-coat ‘Dazzling Black’ color with
an air-adjustable suspension delivering the slammed stance, which is further
accentuated by the massive 22-inch front and 24-inch rear chrome wheels shod in
245/30R22 and 275/25R24 tires respectively.
The study also incorporates a number of Chevrolet
Accessories, including a ground effects kit, black bowtie emblems and Camaro
fender badges, together with tinted lights, custom engine cover, and Chevrolet
Performance Brembo brake kit and sports exhaust system.
