2017 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS (spy shot)

Porsche’s mid-engined model traded cylinder count for turbocharging in pursuit of increased power and torque figures, whilst making gains in fuel efficiency. Initially available in two versions – the Boxster and Boxster S – the soft-top is set to feature a more performance-oriented version in the form of the GTS, spied here.

Whereas the Boxster Spyder and by extension, the Cayman GT4 top their respective line-ups with naturally-aspirated, flat-six engines and chassis upgrades courtesy of greater involvement from Porsche’s GT department, the GTS will be a reworked, higher performance model from the standard line-up.

The GTS moniker has traditionally applied to a reworked version of the corresponding S model, and so the same approach can be expected to apply here, for outputs set to be comfortably beyond the S’ 350 hp and 420 Nm of torque. A ballpark figure of 375 hp is expected, with both manual and PDK gearboxes to feature.

As with earlier iterations bearing the badge, the upcoming Boxster GTS will also sport chassis tweaks in the form of lower, stiffer suspension and slightly more aggressive bumpers front and rear, with different wheel designs. The 718 Boxster GTS is expected to debut in the second half of 2017.
