2019 VW Golf (render)
Volkswagen needs to think
how it will approach the Golf Mk8, especially after the cheating emissions
scandal.
If AutoBild's sources are
correct, then the German automaker still has three years to come up with a
final design for the popular compact car and to test the platform, engine
lineup, and technology before lifting the veils off its body.
The race to come up with
a new look is still on, and designers have reportedly readied two ideas for the
brand's execs to choose from, under a new slogan: "Making quality
visible". The first pattern apparently has a modern approach, while the
other one focuses on classic lines, so taking a final decision is anything but
easy.
Volkswagen's next
generation Golf will continue the weight-losing trend and it's expected to shed
between 35 and 70 kilograms compared to the current model. It will
ride on a longer wheelbase, which will create additional space in the cabin,
and the long list of equipment should include a digital instrument cluster, head-up
display and a large touchscreen. Moreover, the upcoming model is also believed
to adopt autonomous driving technology once it will be ready for market launch,
in 2019.
