All-New Renault Megane RS
Renault's next Megane RS
hot hatch is currently under development, with the company bringing a test mule
to Southern Europe for some real-world driving testing.
You'll
notice this car having a few typical RS characteristics, such as the twin
center-mounted exhaust (the dual setup on each side of the diffuser is fake),
the large Brembo high-performance brake calipers and the bigger wheels.
Design-wise, the
next RS will be based on the latest five-door Megane, but with a couple of
styling and aero improvements such as new splitters, large custom alloys, wider
fenders, beefier side skirts and a pronounced rear diffuser.
As for performance,
according to Renault's VP of design Anthony Lo, the new Megane RS will produce
upwards of 300 PS, extracted from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-pot. Power will
be sent to the front axle through either a dual-clutch EDC transmission or a
6-speed manual - with both options rumored to be available.
Of course with more power
and torque at its disposal, the all-new Renault Megane RS should prove better
equipped at challenging the likes of the Honda Civic Type R, Golf GTI Clubsport
S and perhaps even the Focus RS.
Carscoops spies expect the car
to debut at next year's Geneva Motor Show in March, with first deliveries
scheduled for the end of 2017.
