BMW M2 CS (spy shot)
According to a trusted source on the BimmerPost
forums, the much talked about BMW M2 CS will feature the S55 engine used by the
M3 and M4. It was first reported that this may be the case after an intriguing
facelifted M2 was spied testing sporting the same tailpipes as the M3/M4.
Apparently, the S55, 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six
engine of the M3/M4 will be detuned to the 400 hp mark, down from 425 hp.
Although the M2 CS won’t have as much power, it will have significantly more
than the standard mode, which makes do with 365 hp from its single turbo
3.0-liter six-cylinder.
The M2 CS
will include a number of other components designed to increase its track
prowess. These will include numerous tweaks to the suspension as well as new
aerodynamic parts, including a more pronounced front splitter and rear wing.
Beyond its mechanical changes, it is reported that
the M2 CS will be based around the LCI (facelifted) 2-Series and arrive in time
for the 2018 model year. Consequently, the M2 CS will launch shortly after in
2018, possibly as a 2019 model.
