Vanguard
It's not every day that you see
an entirely new motorcycle manufacturer emerge in America. But that day has
come with the launch of Vanguard and its stunning debut model.
Set to debut at the International
Motorcycle Show at Manhattan's Javitz Center, the Vanguard
Roadster is a concept bike, but a fully functional one. And it takes a rather
novel approach.
Instead of going either
old-school like a Harley or retro cafe racer, or cutting-edge like the latest
sport bikes, the Vanguard Roadster adopts an industrial yet entirely modern
aesthetic approach.
The Vanguard
isn't all about the styling. It also incorporates some novel features. Instead
of slotting it into a frame, for instance, the engine is a structural element.
There's also a unitized crankcase, an integrated exhaust that exits at the rear
wheel hub, and a tablet-like dashboard display with a rear-view camera.
Technical details have yet to be
announced, but production plans have. Vanguard aims to build this and two
additional models – a cruiser and a racer, based on the same building blocks –
at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York, and bring it to market for less than US$ 30,000.
