The
2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD diesel and the 2017 GMC Sierra HD diesel’s engine
specifications for the US market have leaked online in GM’s 2017 information
guide that was published prematurely on GM Powertrain’s website.
The
2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD and the 2016 GMC Sierra HD’s 6.6-liter Duramax
turbo-diesel V8 engine develops 397 hp at 3,000 rpm and 765 lb.-ft. of torque
at 1,600 rpm. The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD and 2017 GMC Sierra HD’s
6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V8 engine has been enhanced to develop 445 hp at
2,800 rpm and 1,234 Nm at 1,600 Rpm of torque.
The
extra 48 hp and 196.59 Nm of torque should bring significant driving
improvements and enhance the towing capability. The maximum power is available
at a lower engine speed now. Along with other possible enhancements, the new
intake system GM will introduce on the 2017 heavy duty trucks is believed to be
the factor that has helped increasing the power and torque considerably.
The
L5P 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V8 engine will be produced in Moraine, Ohio
and installed in all cab styles of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD and the 2017
GMC Sierra HD.
