Ssangyong has dropped new details on its new
flagship full-size SUV, which will make its world debut at the 2017 Seoul Motor
Show later this month. Local reports are calling this vehicle the Mahindra
‘XUV700’, referring to its positioning in the market when it comes here
sometime next year.
The Mahindra-owned Korean manufacturer claims that
the Ssangyong flagship (codenamed Y400) will have excellent driving
characteristics on- and off-road, balanced weight distribution, great towing
capability and NVH performance. It will replace the Ssangyong Rexton in markets
where the company has established operations.
Based on the LIV-2 concept, the Ssangyong Y400 will
measure 4,850 mm long, 1,920 mm wide, 1,800 mm high, and have a a 2,865 mm long
wheelbase. It will ride on a new Quad-Frame body structure that uses 1.5 Gpa
giga-steel and 63 percent high-strength steel for improved body strength and
less weight. One of the engine options could be 2.2L 4-cyl turbo-diesel engine
that produces 184 hp and 420 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual or
7-speed automatic.
As for the Indian version, it will be sold as a
Mahindra. To distinguish itself from the Ssangyong Y400, the Mahindra XUV700
(name unconfirmed) will have an all-new grille and familiar Mahindra design
touches.
