The 2017 Hyundai Verna has been spied up
close by IAB reader Agasthian R in the outskirts of Chennai. Hyundai has
commenced local testing of the next gen Verna ahead of a launch expected in
August.
The Verna test mules are currently
covered up in black canvas. The visible elements suggest that the exterior
design will be similar to the new Hyundai Accent and Solaris unveiled in
Toronto and Russia, respectively.
The new Verna’s exterior styling will finally make
the jump to the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0, featuring the cascading grille,
swept-back headlights with LED daytime running lights, new alloy wheels, new
front lip spoiler, sportier bumper design with chrome elements, LED horizontal
taillamps, and moulded rear spoiler.
The test mule’s dashboard has been covered up and
judging by interior images of the Accent, the next gen Verna will draw
influence from the Hyundai Tucson and Elantra. The
new Verna is likely to have a dual tone beige and black interior with silver
trim around the center console and HVAC vents, automatic climate control,
8-inch touchscreen AVN system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and
start/stop button.
The incoming model will keep the current
engines, which include 1.4- and 1.6-litre N/A petrol and turbodiesel engines
paired with a manual gearbox. The current car is offered with a 4-speed
automatic in both 1.6 petrol and diesel variants, while the next gen Verna
could source the Creta’s 6-speed unit.
