The 2017 Volkswagen Caddy range has been bolstered
by the addition of three new diesel variants, and the return of the
budget-friendly Caddy Runner model. The new variants join the best-selling
Volkswagen Caddy small van range, which until recently had been a petrol only
offering in its current generation.
There are three diesel versions are all powered by a
2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine with 102 Hp of power at 4000 rpm and 250 Nm
of torque from 1300-2800 rpm, and the derivatives bear the TDI250 moniker as a
result. All diesel Caddy models are fitted with a six-speed dual-clutch
automatic transmission, with propulsion via the front wheels.
The three versions include the short-wheelbase
two-seat model, the long-wheelbase two-seat Maxi, and the five-seat Maxi Crew
van. Fuel consumption for all three versions is claimed at 5.3 litres per 100
kilometres.
The diesel models all attract a premium over their
equivalent petrol models: the most affordable model is AUD 31,590 (all prices plus
on-road costs), while the Maxi van is AUD 33,790 and the Maxi Crew costs AUD 35,790.
At the other end of the scale is the Caddy Runner,
which uses a downsized 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine with 84 Hp
of power at 4800 rpm and 160 Nm of torque from 1500-3500 rpm, and as such it
bears the TSI160 nameplate. It is only available with a five-speed manual
gearbox, and is front-drive.
The list pricing for it is AUD 24,990 drive-away,
and it’s expected to be a promotional model that could disappear after the end
of financial year.
