The Volkswagen ID Crozz concept has been revealed ahead of its debut at the 2017 Shanghai motor show. The ID Crozz is the third vehicle from the ID line of concept cars. Each of these are based on the Volkswagen Group’s new MEB flexible electric car architecture, which underpin a new range of production EVs from 2020.

While the 2016 ID concept was a hatch, and the 2017 ID Buzz imagined an electric successor to the Kombi, the ID Crozz wears a ‘coupe SUV’ body.

Featuring an electric all-wheel drive drivetrain, the ID Crozz has a total of 306 Hp of power at its disposal. According to Volkswagen, the ID Crozz has a driving range of up to 500 km, and is capable of a top speed of around 180 km/h. When using a 150kW DC fast charging system, the battery pack can topped up to 80 per cent within 30 minutes.

The ID Crozz is said to be equipped with a self-driving system with a full autopilot mode. There’s also an augmented reality information display that aims to put the most relevant information in the driver’s direct line-of-sight.

Gesture control is present in the cabin, and can be used to activate the panoramic sunroof’s light shade. The ID Crozz also features a CleanAir module that keeps interior air quality high.

It’s not clear if the ID Crozz will morph into a production vehicle, but Volkswagen has high hopes for its MEB electric vehicle architecture. By 2025, it estimates that it will be selling one million electric cars per annum.
