Victoria Police has welcomed the Mercedes-AMG E43 to its highway patrol fleet. The new operational prowler, dubbed the ‘Guardian V2’, was revealed this week at Victoria’s Towards Zero Road Safety Conference 2017.

The AMG E43 is on loan to the Victorian police force for the next year and will play a role in highlighting the importance of safety systems in new cars.

The AMG E43 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6, developing 401 Hp of power and 520 Nm of torque, sent to all-four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission. It’s capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds, on its way to an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Those wanting a non-police version of the AMG E43 will need to shell out AUD 159,900 before on-road costs. Despite this being the second Mercedes-AMG vehicle to be used as an operational highway patrol vehicle in the Victoria Police fleet, authorities are staying quiet on whether they are considering the German performance models to replace locally-made models like the Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo and Holden Commodore SS once Australian vehicle manufacturing ends.
