While international markets are welcoming the fifth
generation Nissan Micra, India will continue with the old model after a minor
update. Nissan has announced that it will unveil the 2017 Nissan Micra in the
country on 2 June 2017.
The MY2017 update does not bring design changes to
the car and will be about new features, equipment revisions and perhaps a price
cut, as with the MY2017 Sunny. The fourth-gen model was given a strong facelift
back in 2013. The changes planned for the yearly update are gathered from
Nissan’s recent tweets and other social media posts.
Nissan is talking about the 2017 Nissan Micra’s
intelligent features on the social media with posts having
“MadeIntelligent” hashtag which hints at a new smartphone app that can give
service alerts and GPS tracking. Another post says that the new model can sense
rain, suggesting that the MY2017 update has rain sensing wipers, just in time
for the monsoon.
The Nissan Micra is currently offered with a
1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 77 PS at 6,000 rpm and 104
Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm and a 1.5-litre diesel engine that develops 64 PS at
4,000 rpm and 160 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. The petrol engine is paired
optionally to a continuously variable transmission, while the diesel model gets
a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. Fuel economy is rated at 19.34 km/l
(petrol)/23.08 km/l (diesel). Prices start at INR 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom
Delhi).
