BMW may have already shown off a camouflaged 2018 M5
to the public and let select members of the press drive it but development of
the super sedan isn’t over and is continuing around the world. Recently,
Carscoops reader Adam Z snapped a camo’d M5 prototype on the streets of San
Francisco, the latest location for its brutal testing regime.
While the new M5 will come to life on the track
rather than the hilly roads of San Francisco, it will have to be just as
comfortable as any other 5-Series variant and to prove successful, must match
up to the Mercedes-AMG E63 S in terms of ride comfort and refinement.
We know the 2018
model will use a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 but now deliver approximately
600 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. To put all of that furious power to the ground,
the car will be sold exclusively with all-wheel drive for the very first time
but at the flick of a switch, it’ll become solely rear-wheel drive.
No release date for the new-generation M5 has been
announced but we expect to see and learn more in the coming months.
